Who runs this site
fightthefine.co.uk is built by Sorted UK, a small independent team that makes free public service tools for the UK. We also run finddentist.co.uk, which helps people find an NHS dentist accepting new patients.
We publish under one team byline rather than individual names. The guides here are collective work, and we would rather you trusted the sources we cite than a name you have never met. Every rule and deadline we describe links back to the body that actually sets it.
Where our information comes from
Everything on this site is based on the UK’s official parking and traffic-penalty framework, not opinion. We write in plain English, but the rules, deadlines and appeal routes we describe come from the authorities that actually run them:
- GOV.UK parking tickets: the government’s own guide to challenging council PCNs.
- London Tribunals and the Traffic Penalty Tribunal: the independent statutory bodies that decide council PCN appeals in London and the rest of England & Wales.
- POPLA and the IAS: the independent appeals services for private parking charges (BPA and IPC members).
- The Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (keeper liability) and the BPA/IPC codes of practice (grace periods, signage), which private operators must follow.
We review this content against those sources and update it as rules change. Where something depends on your exact notice, we tell you to check the notice, because it always takes precedence over any general guide, including ours.
What we believe
- Appealing should be free and easy. It already is free by law at every stage. We just make it easy.
- Honesty wins appeals. The tool helps you present genuine grounds clearly. It doesn’t invent excuses. Made-up stories lose, and deserve to.
