End to end, a straightforward case is often resolved in a few weeks; one that goes all the way to the tribunal can take a couple of months. The key point: enforcement is on hold while a valid challenge or appeal is outstanding, so waiting doesn’t cost you.
Your discount is usually protected. Challenge a council PCN within 14 days and, if it’s rejected, the 50% rate should be re-offered for a further 14 days from the reply — so a prompt appeal rarely costs you money.
Private parking charge — POPLA / IAS
The operator typically replies to your appeal within a few weeks. If they reject it, the free independent appeal (POPLA for BPA members, the IAS for IPC members) usually takes a few weeks to a couple of months. Don’t pay while an appeal is open — paying almost always closes the case for good.
The one clock you must not miss is the deadline printed on your own notice to start the appeal. The appeal itself can take weeks; starting it late can cost you the right to appeal at all.
